The short answer
Portugal’s D7 and D8 financial rules use different logic. D7 uses a household formula tied to the Portuguese monthly minimum salary. For 2026, the published benchmark is €920 per month: 100% for the first adult, 50% for each additional adult, and 30% for each dependent child. D8 uses a separate remote-work framework.
The formula is the durable rule. The 2026 euro examples are dated renderings and must be rechecked when the benchmark changes.

D7: the household formula
For the own-income residence route, the first adult is 100% of the current monthly minimum-salary benchmark. Each additional adult is 50%, and each dependent child is 30%.
Using the verified 2026 benchmark, the first-adult reference is €920 per month, or €11,040 over twelve months. The additional-adult monthly reference is €460, and the dependent-child monthly reference is €276.
These are controlled examples, not a promise of approval, a complete relocation budget, or a substitute for the evidence period and document format required by the competent consular post.
D8: a different income test
For the remote-work residence route in the Portuguese consular jurisdiction in the United States, the retained consular checklist requires average monthly income over the previous three months of at least four Portuguese monthly minimum wages. Using the 2026 benchmark, that is a dated reference of €3,680 per month.
The D8 evidence also concerns remote work for entities outside Portugal. Do not apply this U.S.-jurisdiction checklist to another consular jurisdiction or to the temporary-stay remote-work route without separate authority evidence.
What to prepare
Map the correct pathway first, then collect the relevant income period, household composition, source documents, and consular instructions. A current benchmark can change while the formula remains the same.
